The whine happens even with all accessories off, with the radiator fans off, and no matter what gear I am in. Remove the little door that covers the fuse panel. turn your ign to the run position, then try to crank it over. If the noise increases, then you have air in the system caused by the faulty O-ring on the power steering pump, as described in the post above with the link. Drive belt is easy to check...just remove the belt and start the car. If the noise is gone you found the problem (likely a problem with the tensioner/idler pulley/bearing). My 2012 Accord EX-L 2.4 makes a whining noise from about 1000 rpm to 2500ish. Just wondering if anybody has this noise other than me, just want to know if it is considered normal. It makes the noise when cold or fully warmed up. Wondered if it was the steering but the noise ..., Some get worse faster than others but you will likely get around 75K more miles if the noise is just starting now. There is also some black liquid on the pump.
