We drove the Lost Coast Trail when leaving Eureka for Mendocino. It was a narrow, winding road with spectacular views of the coast in the middle stretch, winding mountain roads at either end. Much of it travels through dairy country populated by cows rather than people. The coast is rugged. Beaches are pebbly or rocky. Most people hike the Lost Coast Trail point-to-point. As with any point-to-point hike, we recommend leaving your car at the end of the trail. You may be faster, or slower and it’s always good to know there’s a car waiting for you at the end.
